As-Salamu Alaykum (May peace be upon you)

Aim of the App

The app was designed to provide a platform which enables our Muslim brothers and sisters around the world to diarise and take account of our 5 daily mandatory prayers before we are held accountable by Allah. We have created a vibrant and stimulating platform which allows you to manage and track your prayer progress, view and update previous prayers as well as offering a statistical breakdown which will enable you to critically reflect on the progress of your Salah. Fundamentally, the app allows you to take ownership of your Salah, with the fundamental purpose of enabling you to be more mindful and attentive of each passing prayer. The app should be treated like a personal diary, and prayer information should be updated and used irrespective of whether you are praying full time, praying some of your daily prayers or not praying at all, as the app will act as a graphical overview of your progress and In Shaa Allah (if Allah Wills) one day when you do decide to pray will be the springboard to support you to pray full time.

The Importance of Salah

Prayer (Salah) is the second pillar of Islam, and is a daily obligation upon all Muslims above baligh (mature) age and is the act of offering prayers to Allah SWT. We fast just one month a year, we must give zakat once a year, and Hajj is only once a life time, however, Prayer is the one act that must be fulfilled at least five times a day, regardless of the circumstance.

The principle of salah is to ensure Muslims maintain their faith and devotion to Allah SWT, to increase taqwa (closeness to Allah SWT) and to remain conscious of the importance of faith and submission to their Creator.

Instructions

Clock

The app has a clock feature which provides daily times of prayers in your area and has a built in function which allows you to see the period in which each Salah is required to be offered within. You are able to change the location as well as your prayer calculation method. Please note; these times should be used as a guideline; your local masjid should be used for the most accurate and reliable times of prayer. This has been added as a complementary feature for the user with the main aim of the app being for documentation as opposed to providing daily times of prayers.

Calendar View

The application enables the documentation and tracking of each Salah that is offered/missed which are visible in ‘weekly’, ‘monthly’ and ‘yearly’ pages. This has been formulated to allow you to access a visual representation and analysis of your Salah.

-        Weekly - The weekly view provides the number of Salahs that have been offered for the week as well as the number of prayers ‘missed’.  Prayers offered are marked in ‘green’; prayers missed are marked in ‘red.

This page should be used to mark the prayers for the current week.

-        Monthly – This view provides a breakdown for the month. You are able to navigate from month to month using the arrows on the page. Data is colour coded; 0-2 prayers offered are marked in red, 3-4 prayers offered are marked in orange and 5 prayers offered are marked in green. Selecting a day in this view brings down a dropdown menu, which allows you to mark any prayers you have made up in this month as either ‘red or green’, this will then update the monthly and yearly calendar view by colour coding the day to either; red, orange or green.

This page should be used to update the prayers in the previous weeks of a month.

-        Yearly - The yearly view breaks down the yearly total in a colour coded format to allow you to track your progress. This view is the best view to track your over-all progress of your prayers. You are also able to navigate to previous views using this feature. Please note – there is a slight delay in the time it takes for this page to load this is because of the amount of data that is stored on this page.

This year should be used to reflect on overall progress and also gives the options of navigating to any month in a given year.

The calendar feature should be used to track prayers from download and the Qaza feature should be used to make up previous missed prayers prior to download.

Qaza (Missed Prayers)

This feature enables you to calculate previous missed Salahs that may have been missed in your lifetime. It is almost impossible to track all the Salahs that one has ever missed however, this app provides a calculation methods which generates a guideline estimate for the number of missed prayers. To generate a guideline total, input your ‘date of birth’, the ‘date reached puberty’ and the ‘date started praying’.  ‘Date started praying’ should be calculated in the following way;

1.      If you have prayed continuously from a specific date then simply input the dates required.

2.      If you have prayed sporadically up to this point and are unable to provide a specific ‘date started praying’; please see example below;

If today’s date is 03.03.2020.

‘Date of birth’ is 01.01.2000

‘Date reached puberty’ is 01.01.2010

‘Date started praying’ – (Ignore this for now)

Take away the approximate number of years prayed from today’s date, i.e. if prayed for ‘2 years’ then take ‘2 years’ away from today’s date.

So in this example; the ‘Date started praying’ will be 02.03.18.

In this manner, the app will generate the number of years you have missed. So the time between ‘date reached puberty’ to ‘Date started praying’ will be your missed period. The period between ‘date started praying’ to today’s date will account for the ‘2’ years of prayers that you have offered.

Please note – the Qaza feature is not linked to the calendar and therefore will not add any further prayers missed after app download in the calendar to the total.

The calendar feature should be used to track prayers from download and the Qaza feature should be used to make up previous missed prayers prior to download.

COMING SOON - Statistics and Charts

Through the data entered in the calendar section, the app provides a further visual and statistical breakdown of your progress in the form of bar charts and a pie chart. Again, this has been created to allow further analysis and breakdown of your progress and has been created for those of you who like to pay close attention to detail. These statistics are offered within pie charts and monthly graphs which summarise numerical data in an easy to understand, user friendly manner.  This is an additional feature which enables further scrutiny and examination.
